DIY Still Going Strong

Whilst we can say that that the 90’s was perhaps the golden age of DIY, thanks in part to the various DIY TV program-mes that appeared on our screens, do it yourself is by no means yesterday’s news. All around the country homeowners of all kinds routinely make improvements to their own homes, and what’s more they do it themselves.

In fact, one of the reasons why we can say that do it yourself is just as popular as it’s ever been is that it’s now more common for women to get involved. Whilst once DIY was something associated with men there is a real sea-change. This is backed up by various figures such as a 92% increase in women attending DIY courses.

Another reason why DIY is growing in popularity is thanks to the internet. The internet has improved our lives in all sorts of different ways and this even includes how we maintain our homes. You can now find  all sorts of companies online providing various DIY-relevant products. You might not even know what a timber merchant is, however if you look online you’ll be able to find a timber merchants offering services like sheet cutting.

Whilst the growth in DIY is definitely a good thing, especially in tougher economic times, it’s important that homeowners are committed to working safely. One aspect of this means not taking on too much work or attempting jobs outside of your skill range.
