There are many reasons why people move to Spain. For example, sometimes they do so to further their careers. In other cases, individuals simply want to benefit from the warm, sunny weather on offer in this Mediterranean country.
Before they embark on their overseas adventures, there is a lot for people to think about, not least the expatriate health insurance they may need. Failure to get such financial cover could lead to disastrous consequences further down the line. As well as placing their money at risk, it could render individuals unable to access international healthcare when they most need it.
There’s also the issue of property to bear in mind. According to British expat Graham Hunt, who now works as a real estate agent in Spain, there are “some brilliant deals on the market now that house prices have dropped by 40 per cent.”
However, he added that it is important for people to plan ahead if they don’t want to get caught out. He added: “I always advise people to get an independent lawyer who speaks both Spanish and your mother tongue to ensure he will represent your interests and explain everything clearly.”
Mr Hunt went on to highlight the need for people to do their “homework” before heading to Spain. Also, offering a general note of caution, he remarked: “Don’t leave your brain on the plane.”
