There used to be negative connotations attached to dating online; however, things are different these days. It’s now not just socially acceptable to date online, but it’s fast becoming the norm. For Muslim singles in particular, the internet can be a fast track to a richer dating pond, and hopefully Muslim matrimony.
Dating in the digital age is, of course, different to traditional means of meeting people, and there are lots of things to bear in mind:
Don’t take things at face value. You’ll probably want to meet someone with similar cultural and personal interests to yourself. Ideally, when you first meet there’ll be a spark. You won’t be able to tell if there is a spark or isn’t just by looking at someone’s profile. Be prepared to get to know someone over time.
At some point along the line, you’ll want to meet the person you’ve been romancing. You need to be careful here. Ideally, you should let someone else know what you’re doing, and you should never give out personal details, address etc until you’re absolutely sure you can trust the person you’re communicating with.
Have fun. The internet is a brave new frontier for dating, and can be a little daunting for lots of people. It doesn’t have to be, and it’s important to remind yourself why you’re looking for love online, to meet like-minded people and improve your social and romantic life.
