Owning and racing petrol-powered radio controlled trucks is a thrilling hobby. However, unlike electric RC vehicles, petrol RC trucks are specialist pieces of equipment that require regular care and maintenance. Dirt, dust and debris can get inside a RC truck engine’s air filter, reducing performance. To keep radio control trucks at optimum performance, the air filter should be cleaned regularly:
• Start by removing the air filter from the RC engine’s carburetor Carefully twist it slightly and pull it off, taking care not to damage the inlet to the carburetor.
• Next, disassemble the air filter. Remember to remove the foam insert as this is the part that collects the most dust and dirt.
• Carefully wash all the parts in clean, soapy water. Take time to make sure that all the dust and dirt has been completely removed from all the parts.
• Rinse all the parts in running water. Thoroughly squeeze the excess water out of the foam insert.
• All the parts should be left to dry completely. This process can be speed-ed up using compressed air.
• Once all the parts are completely dry, apply about 30 drops of air filter oil onto the foam insert. The top of the foam insert should be thoroughly coated.
• Insert the foam back into the air filter. Place the oil-coated side in first, making sure it makes contact with the screen on the air filter.
• Reassemble the air filter and place it back in the carburetor.
