I was reading an article online the other day and saw an ad for a company called Build a Head that was selling what they call custom cardboard cutouts. It left me wondering, what is a custom cardboard cutout?
A cardboard cutout is a lifesize cardboard print that you can make of yourself or someone else. Based on what they show on their site many people use these for weddings when a loved one, such as a member of the family deployed in the military, can’t make it to a wedding. The family gets a custom cardboard cutout and displays it at the wedding to create the feeling that the family member is participating in the wedding. There are also versions that parents make of their kid’s big sports moments so they can take them with them to the office or at home.
I spent some time looking through their site and saw that in addition to cardboard cutouts, Build a Head also offers big heads on a stick used for sports events, weddings, high school graduations, senior nights, and other celebratory events.
It also appears that Build a Head owns a site called PawprintsHQ which offers custom cat heads, custom dog cardboard cutouts (or standups), and custom pawprint stickers. According to their website, PawprintsHQ was launched to help pet families express their love through life-size prints of their pets that can be taken anywhere including work, weddings, college, or traveling throughout the country. In addition to custom pet heads, PawprintsHQ offers custom pet body cutouts, keychains, and expressive pawprint stickers. Customers are able to create custom pet cutouts, or they can also order stock body or head cutouts of various breeds of cats, dogs, as well as several other animal breeds.
It feels like this site works well for pet lovers who wish they could share more of life’s most precious moments with their pets but where situations might not allow. A perfect example would be if someone moved from a job that allowed pets in the office to a job where pets aren’t allowed in the office. Getting a dog cardboard cutout is perfect to make so you can take to the office. Alternatively, you could do a vinyl wall sticker of your dog to put up next to your desk or in your office.
A few weeks ago, I never could have told you what a custom cardboard cutout is but now I think they are pretty cool and think I’ll get one. I don’t know how popular Build a Head or PawprintsHQ are but the concepts are pretty interesting. It feels like they offer a great way to celebrate the special people and special events in our lives.
