Apple Trademarks Shop Design

Recently, the US Patent and Trademark office granted the organisation’s application, meaning it now has exclusive rights to the “distinctive design and layout” of its retail units.

The store arrangement it owns involves rectangular tables that are placed in a line. Specifically, Apple trademarked details of the storefront, the shelves, the arrangement of the tables and the position of the products.

It originally submitted the application in December 2010 and it was eventually granted on January 22nd 2013.

According to The Register, the emergence of copycat Apple shops in China may have been what prompted Apple to file for protection. It pointed out that the US trademark states that Apple filed an international application for the trademark in 19 other countries, including China, Russia, Turkey and several European nations.
