Soft Lips – Secrets and Tips to Great Lips

Dry, chapped skin and lips not only cause discomfort to the people who have those conditions but also don’t look very attractive.  As for soft lips, everyone would like to have them year round but it takes extra work during the winters.  If cold, dry air and harsh winters are taking a toll on your skin, here are a few suggestions to improve the feel but also how they look, year round. For a quick tip you can opt for the most moisturizing lip glossand save yourself

Applying Lip Balms:

Applying Vaseline or any other moisturizing jelly at night is a good idea as it can work at providing the intense moisturizing needed for chapped lips.  Alternating use with a moisturizing lip balm which containing shea butter will bring about good results.  One has to make sure to reapply throughout the day to keep the lips from drying out.  The first layer should be lip balm on top of which one can apply a moisturizing lip gloss for a fresh and bright look.  Choose products based on the condition of one’s lips.  Some lip balms contain mint or alcohol which can irritate sensitive skin.  It is good to read labels to ensure that there are no allergy inducing ingredients.  Quite a few new products are available on the market and they don’t contain fragrances, dyes or flavorings which are created in a lab.

Many brand name makeup manufacturers offer lipsticks, gloss and lip balms with moisturizers as the main ingredient.  If they contain ingredients such as olive or coconut oil or even shea butter, they are a good investment.

Lip exfoliation and conditioning:

Exfoliating dead skin is a great way to keep skin from cracking – olive oil, honey, glycerin and sugar are a good mix for use as a lip scrub.  This has to be done gently as the skin on the lips is very thin and fragile.  A mixture of coconut oil, beeswax and lemon juice can be combined over low heat and then cooled to make a lip balm. Chapped lips also benefit from butter, milk cream or neem oil being rubbed on before going to bed.  Aloe vera gel helps the skin to heal from sun damage.   Cucumber slices also help to hydrate the skin.

Instilling new habits:

Most people forget to drink enough water and stay hydrated.  Drinking at least 8 or more glasses of water a day is good for the skin.  Water helps not only in keeping the body hydrated but also in nourishing skin and promoting new growth of cells.  Dry cracked lips are a sure sign of dehydration.  Many people have the unconscious habit of biting their lips and this can aggravate the problem of chapped lips, especially in the winter.  Hence, it is always good to opt for the most moisturizing lip gloss.

Eating the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables can help a person get the right nutrients.  Omega 3 fatty acids are also good for skin and overall health and can be found in nuts like almonds, fish and avocado. Supplements also help.
